"Once, when I was eight, I sat at a table with a stack of papers, ready to start a huge autobiography. Then my aunts came and asked me what I was doing. I said to them: an illustrated autobiography. They laughed and laughed. I blushed and hid the paper in a drawer. What I could have done still haunts me a little today. Maybe it's time to go back to that drawer, and see if the paper is still there."
Francisco Sousa Lobo is currently one of the most interesting and prolific authors in the portuguese comics scene. After a long period away from comics, he started making them again a few years ago while working on his PhD in Art at Goldsmiths College, in London, which he completed recently. His comics are often semi-autobiographical with a strong critical leaning. He has declared: "I am between the worlds of art and comics, and cannot make clear-cut distinctions anymore."
